Red Bank’s Active Older Adults (AOA) schedule of events for August is now available. Qi Gong, Chair Yoga, and Music Jam classes will continue to be held every Wednesday. Bingo will be held on Thursday, August 28th, at 12 p.m.
“Tech Goes Home” classes are now available for AOA participants every Monday and Thursday from August 4th until August 25th, from 12-2 p.m. Ten older adult participants will be taking a 15-hour computer course to which they will be awarded a free Chromebook at the end of the month, thanks to a grant through the “Tech Goes Home” program. There will be two trained TGH teachers and guest speakers throughout this series. (Note: this class is already full but we are planning to host it again in the future).
Three guest speakers will be making special presentations during the month of August.
Rhonda Basner will be speaking on Monday, August 4, at 11 a.m. Ms. Basner, a recent newcomer to the area, brings with her a deep commitment to ensuring that individuals have the tools and knowledge to make informed choices about how they wish to approach the final chapters of life.
She is now offering a class designed specifically for older adults, creating a respectful and thoughtful space to explore topics often left unspoken legacy, mortality, and personal end-of-life preferences.
Through guided questions and open conversation, participants are invited to reflect on what matters most: their values, final wishes, beliefs about death, and how they hope to be remembered. The class encourages storytelling, introspection, and meaningful dialogue, helping individuals find clarity, peace, and a deeper sense of purpose as they plan for the future.
This unique opportunity aims to empower attendees with both emotional insight and practical understanding, fostering connection and dignity around one of life’s most profound transitions.
On Thursday, August 7th, beginning at 11 a.m., Dr. Lawrence Miller returns to share Red Bank’s rich history through stories and photographs. The community is invited to a special presentation by Dr. Miller, a beloved local historian and returning guest speaker, as he brings the history of Red Bank to life through a captivating collection of stories and historic photographs.
Dr. Miller’s deep knowledge and passion for the area’s past offer a rare opportunity to explore Red Bank’s evolution from its early days to the present through the lens of its people, places, and pivotal moments. His engaging style and carefully curated visuals provide not only a lesson in history, but also a celebration of the community’s shared roots and identity.
This event promises to be both educational and inspiring, offering longtime residents and newcomers alike a deeper appreciation for the legacy and character that continue to shape Red Bank today.
The local nonprofit Wild Ones will host an educational program on native plants and natural landscaping on Monday, August 11th, at 11 a.m. The Red Bank community is invited to learn more about the vital role of native plants and sustainable landscaping practices through an upcoming presentation hosted by the local chapter of Wild Ones, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting environmentally sound landscaping to preserve biodiversity.
The event will explore how native plants support local ecosystems, benefit pollinators, and contribute to healthier, more resilient communities. Attendees will gain practical knowledge on how to incorporate native species into their own yards and public spaces, helping to restore natural balance and beauty.
Wild Ones is part of a growing movement focused on reconnecting people with nature and inspiring action at the local level. This program is open to all who are curious about gardening with purpose and making a positive ecological impact right from their own backyards.
All classes will take place at the Red Bank Community Center, located at 3653 Tom Weathers Drive.
On Saturday, August 9th, Red Bank will host the 2nd Saturday Morning Market. Located on Unaka Street, the market will be open from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
"We are very proud of our growing classes and being able to host these events for free in our Red Bank community," said Tegan Barber, Program Coordinator. “If you are interested in teaching a class, being a guest speaker, or sponsoring one of our programs, please check out our Create-A-Class Program or our Sponsorship opportunities
