Mission For Prayer And Healing At Hixson United Methodist

  • Tuesday, February 10, 2004

The Chattanooga Chapter of The Order of St. Luke the Physician will be holding a Mission for Prayer & Healing on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 19-21. The Conference will be hosted at Hixson United Methodist Church. Hixson UMC is located in Chattanooga at 5301 Old Hixson Pike.

Teachings on Christian prayer and healing will be offered on Friday evening and Saturday. On Saturday evening there will be community-wide service of Communion and Healing Prayer which will be open not just for conference registrants but for anyone in the community needing healing prayer. Praise and Worship Music will also be an important time during the conference with various musicians sharing in each worship time.

Guest leaders for the conference will be Revs. Larry and Audrey Eddings. Rev. Larry Eddings is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church, serving in the Pacific Northwest Conference. He has served as a pastor in local churches and as a General Evangelist since entering the ministry in 1952. He is a Board member of the Aldersgate Renewal Ministries. Rev. Eddings most recently received the Evangelism Award at the Congress on Evangelism held in Nashville in January.

After pastoring churches 18 years, Larry experienced spiritual, emotional and physical fatigue and burnout. Ready to quit the ministry, he was encouraged by his bishop to take another appointment. It was while serving that church that both Audrey and Larry experienced a new and dynamic move of the Holy Spirit in their lives and the necessity of drawing on the Holy Spirit' power and gifts for Kingdom living and ministry, it was stated.

Audrey has a special ministry in the healing of emotional hurts. Years of struggling with physical illness in her own life have served to strengthen her faith and have given her a keen sensitivity to other who hurt. After experiencing a healing of malignant melanoma in 1983, she has become very much involved in the ministry of healing and wholeness. God manifests the gifts of discernment and word of knowledge in very dynamic ways as the Holy Spirit ministers through her.

The International Order of St. Luke the Physician is an inter-denominational Christian fellowship dedicated to the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. It is made up of clergy, health professionals, and lay people who feel called to make Jesus’ Ministry of Healing a regular part of their vocation. "We are a Christian Order, and see ourselves as a part of the Christian Church. We pray as Jesus taught in the Gospels and in His name, with and for all who suffer in body, mind or spirit. We believe that Christian Healing and competent medical practice are not adverse, but complimentary to each other.

"It is our purpose to hold healing services, to teach believers how to be a part of Jesus’ healing ministry through written material and group settings, to give prayer help to individuals in need of healing prayer, and to cooperate with health professionals. We purpose to do this through the established churches. We believe we are one Body in Christ with a variety of expressions."
