The Father and Son Bringing It on Home Tour featuring R&B recording artists Eddie and Gerald Levert, stops at Chattanooga’s Memorial Auditorium for one performance on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m.
Tickets range from $36.50 to $46.50, and are on sale now at Memorial Auditorium box office. Johnny Gill will also appear on the show along with comedian A.J. Jamal.
Legendary R&B singer Eddie Levert of the O’Jays, whose recordings with the group produced twenty-four top ten hits including For the Love of Money, Backstabbers, and Love Train, and gained them induction into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame this year, has passed on his talent to his son. Gerald Levert hit the music scene in 1985 with the group “Levert”, formed with his brother Sean, who makes a cameo appearance on this tour, and longtime friend Marc Gordon. The group produced six gold albums and a number of top hits including the memorable hit Casanova.
In 1991, Gerald went on to a solo career that has produced numerous top selling albums which include the memorable R&B ballads I’d Give Anything and Baby Hold On To Me, the first song father and son recorded together.
At the urging of their fans and family members the two came together to do the album Father and Son in 1995. The album’s balladry for which the two singers are known produced the hits Already Missing You and Wind Beneath My Wings.
Gerald Levert's latest album Do I Speak For The World hit stores in November, the album’s first single One Million Times hit the top ten and The O’Jays latest album Imagination that hit stores in September is receiving critical praise.
Tickets are available at The Memorial Auditorium Box Office, and can be charged by phone at (423) 642-TIXS.
The tour is playing in cities nationwide, ending in late January. The show will feature the two singers performing audience favorites including numerous hits from the O’Jays and Gerald Levert’s careers, Gospel, Blues, and tributes to legendary R&B talents Barry White and Luther Vandross. The duo will perform a cover of Vandross’ Dance With My Father Again and pay tribute to John Whitehead by performing his hit Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now. The set will also include tributes to the music of many R& B legends including Otis Redding’s Try A Little Tenderness, Grover Washington Jr.’s Just the Two of Us, Barry White’s Practice What You Preach, Rick James’ Give It to Me Baby and Ray Charles’ What I’d Say.
Eddie Levert says the duo’s tour, their first concert appearance together in eight years, is designed to ‘bring it home.’ “We want to bring down home music back to our audience, to celebrate our roots, and our music, and deliver to the audience the hits they have enjoyed from us over the years and brand new material our audience has never seen us do. We’re going to do it the old fashioned way- it’s going to be a down home good time. I am especially touched when we are singing Wind Beneath My Wings, and I look into the audience and see tears flowing because that’s the best record for me that my son and I did together, and they get the message. I think we show the audience that family unity is alive and well, and inspire other families to come together. This is how we do it, through our music.”
