We visited the Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant, located at 1861 Battlefield Parkway in Ft. Oglethorpe, on a recent Saturday afternoon. When we arrived there were only a couple of tables occupied, but when we left about forty-five minutes later, they were completely filled on one side, with a few tables being occupied on the other. The restaurant was nice and clean and the hostess and servers were very friendly.
The menu offers numerous selections of familiar Mexican dishes, with a few Guadalajara specialties. There are categories for Fajitas, Chicken, Steaks, Vegetarian, Salads and Seafood. Guadalajara also has a children’s menu with prices ranging from $3.15 to $3.50. Luncheon specials range from $3.50 to $6.
I ordered Cheese Dip ($2.60) to go with the chips and found it was $1 less than the same dip at another restaurant we recently reviewed. The dip had a delicious taste, but needed to be a little thicker in order to stay on the chips better. Wayne ordered the hotter salsa and said he felt it was some of the best he has been served anywhere – and they brought it as soon as it was ordered, unlike some other places where we have to beg for it.
Wayne ordered the Enchilada Supreme ($7.25) which consisted of four enchiladas, topped with grated cheese, lettuce, tomato and sour cream. I ordered the Gerardo Special ($7); two deep fried flour tortillas filled with chicken and served with rice, refried beans and salad with sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo.
Wayne asked to switch the Bean Enchilada for a second Cheese. Usually at most places, even though we are told this is OK, he usually ends up with the Bean. Guadalajara got it right.
My flour tortillas were rolled and stuffed with chicken and were very crisp. I liked the fact that they stayed crisp for the entire meal. They reminded me of large Taquitos.
We liked Guadalajara well enough that we would go back at some point in the future.
This is one of the most difficult articles I have ever had to write, as it will be my last one for Chattanooga Dine Out. For whatever reasons, Wayne has decided to go his separate way and at this point in time, I do not feel I can carry it alone. We started doing Chattanooga Dine Out in May of 2000, a little over a year after we got married and we worked very hard to build it into what it has become today. Our “Together Forever” lasted six wonderful years, but now it is time to move on.
From all the E-mails we have received, I know it has been very useful to Chattanooga and the surrounding area. Sadly, all good things must end, and I would like to thank everyone who has used Chattanooga Dine Out, sent us their comments, and made suggestions over these past five plus years. Maybe one day our paths will cross again.
