Hendo’s Creole Cuisine Has Very Brief Run At Former St. John's

  • Wednesday, July 16, 2025

Hendo’s Creole Cuisine had a very brief run at 1278 Market St., the old location of St. John’s restaurant.

Owner Thomas Johnson said the restaurant had two soft opening events, then faded away.

The planned restaurant was to be serving New Orleans specialties such as gumbo Jambalaya, Shrimp and Grits and Crawfish Etouffee.

It was also planned to have a selection of creole style desserts including Bananas Foster and bread pudding.

Mr. Johnson said he is again seeking to lease the location, which is part of what was once the Ellis Hotel. Mr. Johnson acquired the hotel when it had stood vacant for many years and had lost its roof.

The St. John's moved to the former Mountain City Club on Chestnut.

It is owned and operated by Josh Carter.
