Two of the city's oldest car dealerships - Trotter Buick and Long Pontiac - are planning to merge.
Officials said the merger is subject to approval by General Motors.
The new dealership will be called Trotter/Long Pontiac Buick.
Trotter Buick is located at 4130 Jersey Pike. Long Pontiac-Hyundai is located nearby at 6035 International Dr. Long Isuzu-GMC is at 3150 S. Broad St.
Brothers Amos and Andy Trotter, who were originally from Sevier County, started a dealership in Maryville in 1940. They moved to Chattanooga in 1956 with a location on Broad Street.
Mack Trotter, son of Amos Trotter, later headed the firm. It is now owned by John Trotter, son of Mack Trotter.
J.C. Carter, who went to work for Amos and Andy Trotter in 1941 and came with them to Chattanooga in 1956, is still with Trotter Buick.
