Representatives from the UTC Financial Aid Office and several student lending institutions will be on hand Friday in the UC Computer Lab and UC Gallery for any students that need assistance completing the Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web.
Students should bring their tax return and your W2’s with them. Parents are welcome to attend, but may not come without the student for privacy reasons.
The UTC Financial Aid Office website and MocsNet account also provide answers to many questions.
The Five Steps to Financial Aid simplify the financial aid application process. The first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), making sure that the UTC school code is listed. Both the student and their parent must electronically sign the FAFSA. Any state aid, including the Hope Scholarship, will be sent to the first Tennessee school listed on the FAFSA unless stated otherwise in writing to the state agency.
Second is to submit all requested documents to the financial aid office; information needed will be listed on the student’s MocsNet account under “Requirements.”
Once the student has been awarded, the third step is to accept offered awards. Offered awards may include Stafford loans and Federal Work Study. Grants and most scholarships will automatically be accepted for the student – offered scholarships must be accepted in writing by returning the scholarship award letter to the financial aid office.
The fourth step, if the student chooses to accept their loans and are a new UTC borrower, is to complete a Master Promissory Note with the lender selected and Entrance Loan Counseling. Links to both of these requirements are on the financial aid office website.
And last the student must accept charges with the Bursar under MocsExpress Statement on MocsNet.
