Rescuers were searching for a man who jumped off the Walnut Street Bridge late Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said the man was last seen downstream under the Market Street Bridge.

However, initial efforts to locate him in the water were unsuccessful.

A search boat went back out shortly after 6 p.m. with a park ranger who was one of those to spot the man under the Market Street Bridge.

Authorities said the man left several items on the bridge, including some clothes, a Bible and a note.

A number of people were walking on the popular bridge around the time of the incident and several people saw him jump.
