Robert Eugene Goins Sr., 81, of Chattanooga, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2010.

He served in the U.S. Army, came home from Japan, went to college and graduated from the University of Chattanooga.

He dedicated his life to giving his family the best by excelling in the world of business. He started as a chemist at Berkart Shier Chemical Company, became vice president of GAF Corporation, and owner of Colox Corporation in Dalton.

He holds several patents pertaining to the betterment of the Wet Textile Processing Industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Adela Steele Goins, sisters, Ruth Goins Alley and Inez Goins, brother, Charles Goins Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mavis Ann Goins, two daughters, Robbie (Butch)Harvey, Ginze (James) Newman, Chattanooga; son, Robert E. Goins Jr., Houston, Tx.; two sisters, Virginia Adams (Don) Rush, Betty Ann (Trent) Strickland, one grandchild, Rachel Harvey, two great-grandchildren, Chandler and Christian.

Bob devoted himself to being an extraordinary husband, devoted father, and loyal friend. His countenance, kindness and smile will live forever in those that knew him.

Bob was a member of East Brainerd Church of Christ.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, in the funeral home chapel with Minister C. G. Griffith officiating. Entombment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

The family wishes to thank Life Care of Collegedale, Amedisys Hospice and the Fifth Floor Staff of Memorial Hospital.
