Rev. Jesse Jackson, well-known civil rights leader and former presidential candidate, will visit Olivet Baptist Church on Thursday.
The event was first announced as Friday, but officials said Thursday is the correct date.
The public is invited to attend the free event.
Church officials said, "The economic climate has been on the forefront of discussion not only nationally but locally for several years. Our scenic city and surrounding areas are starting to reap benefits with the addition of the Volkswagen plant as well as several other job opportunities.
"Rev. Jackson plans to meet with local clergy and city leaders to discuss minority concerns in this economy."
Rev. Jackson will serve as the keynote speaker at a Fellowship dinner beginning at 5 p.m. in the Olivet Baptist Church Kingdom Center. This dinner will be exclusive to local clergy, city leaders and educators.
Immediately following the dinner, Pastor Kevin L. Adams of the Olivet Baptist Church will share his pulpit with an American Civil Rights Activist, President/Founder of Rainbow Push Coalition, and Baptist Minister, Rev. Jackson, at 7 p.m.
Doors will open at 6 p.m.
This will be Rev. Jackson’s second visit to Chattanooga in less than a year.
