At Sunday's Chattanooga Market Mayfield Dairy will be scooping up pink flavored ice creams to support the Chattanooga Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. For a $5 ticket donation, visitors to the Market will enjoy samples from Mayfield's "pink" ice creams including; strawberry, black cherry, cherry nut, cherry cordial and strawberry cheesecake.
In addition, the Chattanooga Komen Affiliate will be offering breast health education materials and information about participating in the upcoming 11th Annual Komen Chattanooga Race for the Cure. Several Komen volunteers will also be onsite coordinating kids' activities as part of their kickoff for the Affiliate's, Kidz for Komen.
Event coordinator for Mayfield, Becky Penland, said the dairy is supporting the breast cancer charity partnership by accessorizing Maggie the Cow with the Komen breast cancer awareness ribbon. For added fun, there also will be a Mayfield Milkshake contest for market visitors and winners will receive prizes. The contest is in conjunction with the Dairy’s national milkshake promotion, Below Zero Hero.
“Mayfield is excited about their partnership with the Chattanooga Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” said Ms. Penland. “Giving back to the communities we serve is important to Mayfield, and this partnership lets us contribute to something very important — helping to raise funds and awareness to help eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease."
"Our Affiliate is thrilled Mayfield has chosen our organization to help us raise funds," said Sarah Bowen, Chattanooga affiliate president. "Their support will help our organization spread our breast cancer awareness message and also raise needed funds to allow us to expand and provide much needed support to local breast health education, treatment and screening programs reaching out to underserved women in our community."
The Market will be following suit with the "pink" theme. Vendors will support the event and will be "pinking it up." As well, Maggie, Mayfield's cow, will be onsite dressed for the occasion.
"It's a great opportunity for those who've stayed inside because of the heat the past few weeks," said Paul Smith, general manager of Chattanooga Market. "We can offer folks a 'cool' reason to come to Chattanooga Market this Sunday and see some of our newest offerings including fresh poultry, pasta and sausage. Of course, farm fresh produce is at it's peak too."
