Diane Dawson Marek, of Signal Mountain, died on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at her home.

She was born June 10, 1943 in Mattoon, Il. She was co-founder of the Outdoor Museum of Art at Chattanooga State; co-founder of the John and Diane Marek Visiting Artist Lecture Series at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; founder of the Roy’s Art Lunch Group; a member of the Chattanooga Public Arts Committee; and a board member of the AIM Center.

She was also a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Her father, Charles Dawson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, John Marek; mother, Dorothy Dawson of Mattoon, Il.; sons, Todd Marek of Chicago, Il.; Tim Marek of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Halley Marek of Chicago; aunt, Jane Portis of Evansville, In.

A celebration of Mrs. Marek’s life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the AIM Center, 472 West MLK Blvd., Chattanooga, Tn. 37402.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn.
