Wayne Eugene Aslinger, Sr., age 93, of Soddy Daisy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at an area hospital.

Born on June 29, 1931, Wayne was the youngest of 10 children born to the late Leonard James Aslinger and Hettie Alice Morgan Aslinger. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Sergeant from 1951 to 1952, working as a parachute packer aboard an aircraft carrier.

Wayne held a long and dedicated career at DuPont, where he worked for 35 years. His coworkers affectionately called him “Red,” and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Wayne met the love of his life, Alyne Wilson, in the most unforgettable way—when she dove on him at a basketball game to get his attention. That was Wayne’s version of the story, that he would always tell with a grin. Their love story was as unique and strong as the life they built together, full of laughter, devotion, and enduring memories.

A man of many talents, Wayne was an avid gardener who could grow anything, and a gifted mechanic who could fix just about everything. He built his own home and several others, always lending a hand when someone needed help. He was a man of great wisdom and perspective, known for his generosity, kindness, and the quiet strength he brought to every situation.

Wayne loved being outdoors, especially when he was fishing or bird hunting. He also had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life—watching westerns, listening to country music, and spending time with his beloved family.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Alyne Wilson Aslinger; all nine of his siblings; his son, Wayne Aslinger, Jr.; his son-in-law, Dr. Michael Garland; and several close nieces and nephews.

Left to carry on his legacy are his children: Becky Garland, LTC (Ret.) Jerry Aslinger and wife Mary Ann, and Allison Hans and husband Jim; his daughter-in-law Karen Rhodes; grandchildren: Andrew Aslinger and his wife Lan Anh, John Aslinger, and his wife Esther, Alex Hans and his wife Kayla, and Abby Rhodes; and his great-grandchildren: William, Abigail, Katherine, Joshua, and Margot.

Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 28, in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8911 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy Daisy, Tn. 37379. 423 843-2525.
