Dalton Sees Labor Force Gains, Unemployment Drops To 3.7% In March

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Dalton recorded an unemployment rate of 3.7% in March, down one-tenth from the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 3.5%.

“In March, Georgians from every corner of the state stepped up, joining the workforce and filling critical jobs that drive our state’s economy forward,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. "By working with regional partners across the state, we’re creating a globally competitive workforce — one that’s built to last and ready to lead Georgia into its next phase of prosperity."

The labor force in Dalton increased by 13 and ended the month at 67,201. That number decreased by 954 compared to March 2024.

Dalton finished the month with 64,690 employed residents. That number increased by 45 from the previous month and declined by 1,061 from the same time a year ago.

Dalton ended March with 68,500 jobs. That number decreased by 200 from the previous month and by 800 from the same time last year.

In March, initial unemployment claims decreased by 202 over the month and decreased by 191 compared to the same month a year ago, totaling 359.
