James Damon Phipps, 88, of Signal Mountain, died on Monday, April 4, 2011 at his home.
He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World Ware II. He was employed by Chattanooga Glass and Bottling Company for 26 years and was deputy sheriff under several different Sequatchie County Sheriffs. He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ.
Mr. Phipps was the son of the late Clarence and Hallie Campbell Phipps and was also preceded in death by his wife, Alma Hall Phipps; sisters, Rosa Lee Phipps and Eva Meeks; and brother, Sam Phipps.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Mosley Phipps; sons, Damon Larry Phipps and James Marlon (LeAnn) Phipps; daughters, Janice (Stewart) Pickett, Charlotte (Jamie) Stewart, and Debbie (Richard) Worley, all of Signal Mountain; stepson, Howie (Donna) Ewton, Dunlap; stepdaughter, Dawn Clark, Crossville; grandchildren, Damon Larry Phipps Jr., Ashley Phipps, Chris Mallard, Allison Pickett Blevins, Brandon Pickett, Brent Pickett, Shawn Stewart, Kimberley Worley Deakins, Jenny Worley Scott, Jeremy Worley, Eric Marlon Phipps, and Megan Phipps; stepgrandchildren, Tabetha Ewton, Danielle Ewton Shoemate, Daniel Ewton III, Tara Clark Oakes and Miranda Bond; 20 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. CST on Wednesday, Apr. 6, in the Ewton Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Freddie Clayton and Ray Wenton officiating. Burial will follow in Hall Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 5.
