Sweetwater Mayor Doyle Lowe, other city officials, business leaders and community members today joined Walmart Market Manager Jackie Chapman for a ceremonial groundbreaking for a new Walmart Supercenter. The new store is being constructed at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 68 in Sweetwater.
“This store will be a great convenience for the residents of Sweetwater,” said Sweetwater Mayor Doyle Lowe.
“And, just as importantly, it will create approximately 300 new jobs and allow us to keep more sales tax revenues here at home to benefit our local economy.”
Walmart Market Manager Jackie Chapman confirms the benefits that accompany the opening of a new store. “More and more, we see communities like Sweetwater that recognize the value in bringing Walmart to their neighborhoods because of the economic stimulus benefits we bring to the community, the jobs and career opportunities we create for our associates, and the convenient access to healthier, affordable foods our stores provide,” said Chapman.
Chapman also emphasized the commitment Walmart demonstrates by giving back to its communities. Last year, in Tennessee alone, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $21.1 million in cash and in-kind donations to local organizations in the communities it serves. Through additional funds donated by customers and Walmart and Sam’s Club associates throughout the state, the retailer’s contributions in Tennessee totaled more than $23.4 million.
