Coppinger Has Fundraising Lead In County Mayor Race

Incumbent County Mayor Jim Coppinger has a comfortable lead in the race for campaign funds.

In the most recent filing, he reported $83,218 left over from the last reporting period at the end of February and $11,905 received since then.

Rick Wilson, Democratic candidate, had $44,000 from the first reporting period and another $500 picked up since then.

Candidate Richard Ford had no receipts and no expenditures. William Turner took in $600.

In the assessor race, incumbent Bill Bennett had $13,167 from the last reporting period and received another $21,445.

Democrat Jelena Butler had $1,025 from the last reporting period and gained another $4,701. Conrad Taylor had no receipts or expenses.

Mitzi Yates, Democratic candidate for County Commission District 3, had $1,143 from last reporting period. She picked up another $870, including a $200 loan she made to the campaign, $70 from Phil Phillips and $100 each from JoAnne Favors and Brenda Nunn.

She will face Republican Marty Haynes, who defeated incumbent Mitch McClure. Mr. Haynes listed $1,375 left over from the last reporting period and $1,483 brought in since then. The report lists an $8,000 loan he made to the campaign. Haynes contributions included $1,000 from the Committee to Elect Gerald McCormick and $100 from the Committee for Jim Hammond Sheriff.

Total Haynes receipts for the first reporting period were $15,981, and most of that was spent in the Republican primary. He received $500 from Norma Haynes, Randy Fairbanks, Martha Rogers, Jay Simpson, William Brandenburg and Art Stavrum, $350 from William Young (state solicitor general), $300 from Terry Conley, $251 from Steve Slater, $250 from Michael Rawlston, Tony Sanders, Christopher Holden, Denny Mayes, Geoff Holden and George Patton, $230 from David Haynes, and $200 from Mack Tipps, David Womack and Mark West.

Commissioner McClure had $1,927 on hand and raised another $205.

Commissioner McClure got $1,400 from Brenda Erwin, Louis Erwin and Joe McClure, $1,000 from Eddy Bell and Julian Bell, $700 from Ed Gravitte, $500 from Cade Williamson, Sherri McClure, Tennessee Valley Water Alliance and Charley Peavyhouse, $300 from Robert Mullin, $250 from Claude Shearer and Wilburn Ricketts and $200 from Bell Engineering, Roy Rumfelt, Ron Bhalla, Rheubin Taylor and David Queen. He put $1,000 in his own campaign.

Tuesday was the deadline at the election office for submitting the report from the latest reporting period.
