RiverRocks Chattanooga Teams With Local Boy Scouts With Over The Edge Event

  • Wednesday, August 8, 2012

RiverRocks and the Boy Scouts of America, Cherokee Area Council will host a kickoff for the 2012 RiverRocks festival. Over the Edge presented by SunTrust Bank, is an event scheduled for Oct. 5, where participants will rappel off of the roof of one of Chattanooga's tallest buildings. The SunTrust Building owned and operated by the Simpson Organization, stands at 240 feet and will serve as the foundation for the event.

Those who wish to take part in the rappel commit to raising a minimum of $1,000 in donations with prizes awarded to the highest fund raisers. Area businesses can send one of their own over the edge by raising $2,500 in the "Toss Your Boss" category. Proceeds will benefit local scouting programs and the 8 local land conservancies supported by RiverRocks Chattanooga.

According to Mike McGauley, founder of RiverRocks Chattanooga, rappellers from the community, called Edgers, will descend 20 stories from the top of the SunTrust Bank building on Market Street.  "It's all for a good cause," said Mr. McGauley.  "We couldn't think of a more exciting way to kick off our 2012 RiverRocks festival and we have a perfect partner in the Boy Scouts. I am excited about being an edger and challenge other business owners and operators to go vertical for a good cause."

Two lines will be run off of the building with space for approximately 70 rappellers.  No experience is necessary and expert guides and rope tenders will be onsite to train and ensure the safety of the participants.

"This will be a fun and amazing experience for anyone who participates," noted Adrian Hackett, assistant scout executive COO for the Cherokee Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.  "We are thrilled that Jaguar Land Rover of Chattanooga has joined us as a lead sponsor and will be adding a very special prize to our top fund raisers.  We are only one week into opening registration and already have 20 Edgers signed up."

Register for Over the Edge and find more information about the event online at www.OverTheEdgeChattanooga.com

With more than 90 different events taking place during the 10 day festival area residents and visitors will have many activities to choose from whether they want to join in or be part of the crowd.  For complete information visit www.RiverRocksChattanooga.com.
