Local NAACP Hits "Negative Effects" Of High Point Initiative

  • Monday, November 18, 2013

Chattanooga Hamilton County NAACP officials said they will be discussing "the negative effects of the High Point Initative and the negative effects it has had on the Black community" at a meeting on Tuesday.

Eric Atkins, secretary of the local chapter of the NAACP, said, "A part of this criminal justice discussion is the negative portrayal of the black community due to the recent arrests of 32 individuals, all of whom are black. Let the discussion of the scales of justice begin throughout our city."

The High Point Initiative has been a hallmark of the Berke Administration's crime-fighting effort.

The meeting will be at the Glenwood Recreation Center at 6 p.m.
