Harold D. Berry, 74, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

Harold retired from Norfolk Southern Railway with over 35 years of service.  He was known by all as “the hugger” and he enjoyed spreading his love. Harold was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and the Hall’s Sunday School Class.

Harold lived a great life.  Charlotte and Harold got to travel and have many great times together.  Over the past seven years, Dad had many hard struggles but he never gave up and continued to trust that God’s plan was still the best. Dad was always quick with a smile, hug and word of encouragement.  He loved hunting, fishing, camping and anything outdoors.  Karen and her Dad enjoyed NASCAR racing.  She will miss her Race Buddy.  We know he is enjoying his new life in heaven.  Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and daughter, Susan Wood.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Charlotte; daughter, Karen (Jeff) Duncan and a son, Steve (Valerie) Berry; grandchildren, Christina (Leon) Pritchett, Stephanie, Allison, Rachel, Nicole, Brody, Heather and great grandson, Hayze; son-in-law, Matt Wood; brother, Marion (Linda) Berry; nephew, Dixon (Kimberly) Berry.

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, and 1-2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the North Chapel.

Services for Harold will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, at the North Chapel with Doctor John Boldt, Jr., and Pastor Sam Greer officiating.  Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harold’s name to Red Bank Baptist Church at 4000 Dayton Blvd., Red Bank, Tn. 37415.

The family would like to thank his wonderful nurses and techs at the IMCU at Erlanger and Hospice of Chattanooga for their love and compassion for the family.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
