Richard Lee Scott died on December 14, 2014 with his loving wife of 53 years by his side. 

Richard was born on May 7, 1931 in Boston, Ma. to the late Brig. General Richard Lee Scott and Myrtie Isabel Scott.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Loudema (Lou) Dodd Scott. He is also survived by two former foster children, Bill Byrd and Kathy Ann Byrd Rice; a brother, Barry Scott, of Georgetown, Tx., and a sister, Suzy Odom Scott, of Houston. He will also be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly.

Richard received his B.S. and master's degree in education from Trinity University in San Antonio. He taught school in Poteet, Tx., Castroville, Tx., and Walker County.

Lee was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe where he served as a children's Sunday School teacher, a deacon, and a longtime member of the Building and Grounds Committee. He was a member of Agape Sunday School Class.

Lee served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 148, where he served on the decorating committee.

Lee loved running and eating out with his "running friends". He loved playing bridge and was an avid reader. He was an accomplished rug hooker, having produced many beautiful rugs, wall hangings, and pictures.

Lee loved his wife, his family, his church, and his many friends.

Many thanks to his caregivers, Hospice of Chattanooga, and NHC of Fort Oglethorpe for their loving care during his final days.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, in the funeral home chapel, with Reverend Jason Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Chickamauga City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, and from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Building and Grounds Committee, First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe, P.O. Box 2125, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. 30742.
