Corker Says U.S. Should Have Sanctions Ready In Case Of Renewed Violence In Ukraine

  • Friday, February 21, 2014

Senator Bob Corker made the following statement regarding developments in Ukraine and the U.S. and congressional response to the crisis:

“While hopeful progress is being made to ease the crisis, the U.S. should have sanctions ready in case there is renewed violence or Yanukovych’s government fails to proceed in good faith.  The Ukrainian military must also continue to refrain from any crackdown of protesters.

“Any viable resolution must respect the rights of the Ukrainian people to choose a future within Europe that ensures Ukraine remains, whole, independent and free. I will continue to work with my colleagues and the administration to oppose further violence and help Ukrainians fulfill their desire for eventual association with Europe, which is in U.S. interests.”

Senator Corker continues to work on legislation, including targeted sanctions, to support a resolution of the Ukraine crisis.
