Remember: Don't Say "Remember?"

  • Thursday, April 17, 2014

Leading up to the recent death of my brother I repeatedly heard "Remember?" when he asked what they were doing. "Remember, the doctor ordered...?" or "Remember we have to...?" "Remember we changed...?"

No he didn't remember and pointing out his failure served no useful purpose but only served to confuse and agitate him.

My grandmother died six months short of her 100th birthday and although exceptionally sharp for her age she forgot and was confused by some things. I literally bit my tongue every time a nurse or aide said "Remember?"

Remember, if you're tempted to say "Remember?" it is because you already know they don't.
