Gladys Shamblin Oliver, 74, of East Brainerd, died on Friday, July 11, 2014 surrounded by her family.

Born and raised in McMinn County, she was a longtime resident of Chattanooga. 

She was a charter member of New Haven Baptist Church and a founding member and Queen Mother of the Red Hat Society, Sisters at Heart Chapter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Tennie Shamblin,  brother, Homer Shamblin, brother-in-law, R.L. Bewster, infant daughter and step-daughter, Judy McBryar. 

Survivors are her loving husband, Windle Oliver;  daughters, Sharon (Herman) Mathely, Rossville and Pam (Frank) Billingsley, Jasper, Tn.;  step-sons, Billy (Sandra) Oliver, Randall (Christina) Oliver and Bobby (Tina) Oliver all of Georgia;  grandchildren, Elizabeth Deacons, Daniel (Barbara) Oliver, Randall Oliver, Sabrinia (Artemio) Jeronimo, Thomas Oliver, Belinda Oliver, Summer Oliver, Billy Oliver, Jr., Jennifer Oliver, Chrissy McBryar; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Ed (Carolyn) Shamblin, California,  Ronnie (Evelyn) Shamblin, Jasper;  sister, Betty Brewster, Georgia; sister-in-law, Juanita Shamblin, Antioch, Tn., several nieces and nephews;  lifelong friends, Velma Sue Eaton, Mag Roberts and Sue Tindall and fur baby, Smoltz.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, July 14, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Bill Broom officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East with Alan Brewster, Steve Brewster, Dennis Stafford, Terry Ellis, Larry Cagle and Marty Black serving as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
