Elizabeth “Betty” Ruble Baker, 85, died peacefully on Saturday morning, January 10, 2015. Her daughter was able to be by her side as she left to be with the Lord.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, William Arthur Ruble and Elizabeth Harper.

Betty was born in Maryville, Tn. She graduated from Maryville High School. She attended Vanderbilt University where she was in the Phi Beta Phi sorority.  In her senior year she received the Lady of the Bracelet Award, the highest recognition given a female undergraduate.

Following her graduation from college, Betty worked for Girl Scouts of America in Maryville. She was also a charter member of The Junior Service League of Maryville .

After the Girl Scouts, she started a flourishing career with Delta Airlines based out of Atlanta. She was picked to open the New York hub and then went to work with Delta in Washington D.C. Her clients included the Central Intelligence Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation. Betty then married her husband of 57 years and moved to Chatttanooga, to raise her family.

She became an active member of the Chattanooga Junior League and the Riverview Garden Club.

She is survived by her husband, Josiah Carr Eggleston “Jody” Baker, her three children, Wade Baker, Edward “Ned” Baker and Julia Baker Dooley. She has four grandchildren, McLain and Shelby Dooley and Elizabeth and Stephanie Baker.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at First Centenary Methodist Church on Jan. 14, with visitation at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m.
