Truck With Hazardous Materials Goes Into Creek Near Haletown; Driver Initially Pinned Under Vehicle; Eastbound Lanes Shut Down

The driver of a tractor trailer hauling hazardous materials went through a guardrail and into a creek on I-24 near Haletown in Marion County early Thursday morning.
 
Eastbound lanes were entirely shut down initially. There were plans to open the shoulder for slow-moving traffic.
 
Rescuers were able to free the man from under the vehicle, and he was alert and talking afterward.
 
Hazmat teams were at the scene dealing with the release of the materials into the water.
 
The wreck was near mile marker 161.
