Members of Cleveland Middle School's award-winning dance team are going to New York City to take part in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.
Mayor Tom Rowland and Vice Mayor George Poe met dance team members Thursday at the school. Mayor Rowland gave each member a certificate making them Cleveland's ambassadors during their week in the Big Apple.
The parade will be from
9 a.m.
until noon on Thanksgiving Day on NBC television.
Kelly Owens, dance team director, said the eleven members will leave Saturday for a week of rehearsing and touring New York. They will see a Broadway show, the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and other famous locations.
The CMS team are grouped in the Spirit Of America section of the parade. They will perform a special choreographed show as part of their parade appearance.
Ms. Owens said team members are also excited about meeting some of the celebrities who will be in the parade. Each team member will receive a commemorative Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade performance team jacket, pin, and travel bag.
The team received an invitation to be in the parade in July. The Cleveland School Board approved the trip in August.
