Brainerd may get a new shared pathway running along Brainerd Road and connecting with the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway at the creek.
It will run from Spring Creek Road to Greenway View Drive - the road that leads to the Brainerd Walmart.
The pathway will be on the south side (Brainerd Village side) of Brainerd Road.
Total cost for the path that can be used by pedestrians and bicyclists is put at $1,187,500.
The city's portion is $237,500. A state grant is being sought for the remainder.
Plans are also underway for a Rossville Boulevard shared pathway and for a greenway along Virginia Avenue in St. Elmo. The City Council is due to act Tuesday on acquiring several tracts needed for the Virginia Avenue pathway.
