Retired As A Chief For The Chattanooga Fire Department After 38 Years

George Edward Davis, 89, of Chattanooga died on Monday, March 30, 2015.

He was born April 11, 1925 in Chattanooga to the late Earl O. and Mary Bernice Davis. He was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Davis, James Davis and Earl Davis. Mr. Davis was a member of South Seminole Baptist Church. He was retired from the Chattanooga Fire Department after 38 years of service. He served as chief for seven years. He was a Marine Corps veteran serving in the Pacific arena during World War II.

His smile was contagious and he never met a stranger. If you were a friend of his, you were his friend forever.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Jewell Davis; children, Melinda Penney of East Ridge, Gregory Davis of Cameroon, Africa, Randy Davis of East Ridge, Alicia Rogers of Rossville, Wanda Guinn of Bridgeport, Alabama and Linda Hatfield of Fort Oglethorpe; brother, Bob Davis; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Perry and Reverend Ray Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
