Ponsford, Ltd. is using new laser technology to clean and restore the New York Peace Monument at Point Park on top of Lookout Mountain, which is part of the National Park Service in the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park. The bronze sculpture “Reconciliation” by sculptor Hinton Perry adorns the top of this historical monument which was donated by the state of New York.

Ponsford, Ltd. has conserved numerous other national treasures such as the monuments at Arlington National Cemetery, artifacts from the Titanic, and even including the treasured Bible belonging to Martin Luther King.

The conservators at Ponsford are currently under a five year contract to conserve and restore the monuments and sculptures at Chickamauga National Battlefield and they are very excited about the advantages brought to the restoration field with the use of laser cleaning. This process is not only a more gentle way of cleaning it is extremely environmentally friendly. There are no chemicals, residue orconsumables with this process which eliminates any risks to people or the environment.
