Amy Newton Barron Reid, 91, of Dalton, GA, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2015.

Since November she had resided in Athens at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living.

Born January 17, 1924 to William Edgar and Sara Jackson Barron, Mrs. Reid was the sixth of seven children. Her parents ran a dairy farm in Rome, Georgia. After graduating from Model High School in Shannon, GA, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia in 1945. Mrs. Reid worked as a home economist in Marietta with Georgia Power prior to her marriage to Charles W. Reid in 1949. They resided in Cartersville before coming to Dalton in l950.

Mrs. Reid was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reid; and her daughter, Sara Gail Reid Hollingsworth (Gary).

She is survived by her brother, Hoyt Edwin Barron (Edna), Rome, GA; son, Charles W. Reid, III (Sharon), Hull, GA; grandchildren, Craig Spratlin Reid (Katherine) Greensboro, GA, Rachel Reid Fleming (Joel), Statham, GA and Mary Margaret (Molly) Reid Coletti (Robert), Bethlehem, GA; great-grandchildren, Ian Reid Fleming, Alexandra Rachel Fleming and Hannah Rose Fleming; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 11, in the Dalton First Baptist Church Chapel from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m., officiated by Rev. Larry Flanagan. Interment will follow at Whitfield Memorial Gardens.

The legacy of Amy Barron Reid was personal service to others. She played an active part in the lives of her family members and provided meals, transportation, and any other assistance to those in the community, particularly the elderly. The picture of maturity when dealing with crises, she will be missed by all whose privilege it was to know and love her.
