County Commissioner Tim Boyd has questioned big raises for officials at the Hamilton County Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority (WWTA), saying it is "the worst-run agency in the county."
Executive Director Cleveland Grimes got a bump from $86,406 to $104,000.
Natasha Long received a $16,377 increase when she was promoted to a post formerly held by Wanda Counts.
Lanny Mowery went from $44,276 to $58,383.
Four employees (Makisha Brumlow, Wes Cameron, Andrew Sheperd and Steven Wright) received increases totaling $11,597.
The raises totaled $59,675.
Cheri Jewell, who chairs the WWTA board, could not be reached for comment.
County Auditor Bill McGriff, who recently replaced former County Finance Director Louis Wright on the WWTA board, said the raises came before he went on the board.
He said he was advised that a committee of the WWTA had recommended the increases and they were approved by the full board.
Commissioner Boyd said most of the emails he receives are complaints from citizens about the WWTA.
He said, "I am still trying to find out who this agency reports to."
