Battling For Memory Walking Tour Is Aug. 1

  • Thursday, July 23, 2015

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a two-hour walking tour on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m., at Sherman Reservation on the Missionary Ridge Battlefield.

As veterans attempted to create Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park over 25 years after the battle occurred, a new fight emerged over everything from unit names to the placement of monuments. Who—if anyone—held the correct memories? Park Guide Lee White will tell some of these stories and uncover some of the hidden truths.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a water bottle, comfortable shoes and a portable chair. Sherman Reservation is located in Chattanooga on the north end of Missionary Ridge at the intersection of North Crest Road and Lightfoot Mill Road.

For more information about this and other upcoming programs at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, please contact the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 706.866-9241, the Lookout Mountain Visitor Center at 821-7786, or visit the park’s website at www.nps.gov/chch.
