Mayor Rowland Reappointed Commissioner On Tennessee Advisory Commission On Intergovernmental Relations

  • Wednesday, August 12, 2015

Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland has been reappointed to a four term as a commissioner on the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. The appointment was made by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey.  Appointments to the commission rotate between the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the house.  Mayor Rowland was first appointed by Governor Don Sundquist.

Mayor Rowland serves as vice chair of TACIR, the highest position that can be held without being a member of the general assembly.  The chairman is Senator Mark Norris of Colliersville. The mayor has been elected chairman five times by fellow commissioners.

"I appreciate the confidence placed in me by Governor Ramsey and those others who have selected me," Mayor Rowland said.  "Senator Mike Bell told me a few days ago that the appointment was forthcoming. I enjoy serving in this position and look forward to discussing issues concerning the residents of Tennessee."

In making the appointment Lt. Governor Ramsey said, “I am confident you will continue to perform the duties of office with the highest standard of professionalism and integrity that the citizens of Tennessee deserve and expect of their public servants.”

House Speaker Beth Harwell said in a letter to Mayor Rowland, ”I appreciate the trust the lieutenant governor has placed in you. TACIR performs an important function for government as a forum for the discussion and resolution of intergovernmental problems and issues.”

State Rep. Kevin Brooks said he is proud that his mayor has been selected to serve the citizens of Cleveland and all of Tennessee in this prestigious position. “He is the only city mayor serving on the Homeland Security Council, having been appointed by three governors.” Rep. Brooks said Mayor Rowland is highly respected state-wide.
