Woman And 7-Year-Old Daughter Die After She Hits Pickup Truck At Ooltewah

Rachael Mosier, 29, and her seven-year-old daughter, Bryalie, have died after police said Ms. Mosier was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit a pickup truck early Thursday morning.

Around 12:25 a.m., the Chattanooga Police Department responded to a motor vehicle wreck at 6100 Mountain View Road in Ooltewah involving two vehicles.

A 2015 VW Passatt, driven by Ms.

Mosier and occupied by her daughter was traveling south on Mountain View Road on the wrong side of the road for an unknown reason. 

A 2004 Chevy pickup truck driven by Rodney Proffitt, 32, was traveling northbound on Mountain View Road in the correct lane of travel. 

The vehicles collided head on in the northbound lanes. All parties were transported to Erlanger Hospital for treatment. The child succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. 

Mr. Proffitt sustained injuries, but is expected to recover. He is an officer with the Chattanooga Police Department.  He was off-duty in his personal vehicle at the time of the motor vehicle wreck.

The daughter was a student at Ooltewah Elementary School.
