A Rutherford County man said his daughter hid behind a desk when a man with an assault rifle entered the Naval and Marine Support Center in Chattanooga.
Daniel Vincent told WKRN TV that his daughter, Sgt. Amanda Vincent, was 6-8 feet away when he started shooting.
He said she then ran to a back office and warned others about the shooter.
Mr. Vincent said he happened to be working in Chattanooga on that tragic day - July 16 - and he got a call from his daughter that she had survived the attack.
Mr. Vincent, who wants military personnel at such facilities protected, told the station, "None of them were armed; they were all pretty much sitting ducks.
“Our biggest message is to arm our service people. We’re at war with radical Islam and whether people in Washington want to admit it or not, it’s happening. Until we identify, recognize and identify the problem and the threat, then events like this one will continue to happen.”
