Held Long Career With Bellsouth And Served In The U.S. Air Force

Wayne L. Erwin, 85, of East Ridge, died on Monday, January 11, 2016.  

He was a member of Crosspath at East Ridge and had been a deacon for a number of years when it was East Ridge Baptist Church.  Mr. Erwin was a graduate of Central High School and retired from Bellsouth Telephone Company after 36 ½ years of service.  He had been a freelance photographer for a number of years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.  Mr. Erwin was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served four years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mercer Blake and Elsie Long Erwin.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Tommie McCurdy Erwin; two daughters, Sheri Erwin Burchfield of Chattanooga and Julie Erwin Thompson of Minnesota; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with Dr. Ronnie Mitchell and the Reverend William T. Jacques officiating.  Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the funeral home.
