Trip sponsors and students await their departure for a semester in the UK.
Twenty-one Lee University students departed for the annual United Kingdom (UK) Semester Study Abroad program.
“It hasn’t seemed real until now,” said sophomore Logan Craig. “I’m excited for both the big and little things on the trip and to explore the nooks and crannies of Cambridge.”
While on the semester-long trip, participants are able to earn 15 credit hours while living in the city of Cambridge. In addition to attending class in Cambridge, students will also visit multiple other sites throughout the UK including Bath, London, Oxford, and the Lake District in England; Caerwent and Chepstow in Wales; Edinburgh in Scotland; and Dublin and Limerick in Ireland.
“I’m looking forward to this new adventure in life, seeing new places, and making new friends,” said Ben Strawn, a junior at Lee.
In Cambridge, the group will take courses taught by Lee faculty through a specially-designed online program. Classes include British Cinema, British Theatre, Cultural Ethics in the U.K., and The World of C.S. Lewis.
During the last two weeks of the program, students will have the opportunity to arrange their own independent travel itineraries and accommodations. In the past, participants have chosen to visit countries such as Austria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, and Spain. Students will culminate their tours in London, where the entire group will fly home together.
The faculty trip director this year is Dr. Jeff Sargent, chairperson of the Department of Behavioral and Social sciences and associate professor of psychology at Lee. His wife, Beth, will join the group in mid-February.
“This is such a privilege and honor to participate on this once-in-a-lifetime trip. To get to experience it with students makes it that much better,” said Dr. Sargent.
This year’s participants include: Megan Allen, Scarlett Bray, Mary Bryan, Abigail Christopher, Ashley Cline, Logan Craig, Lauren Falstad, Maggie Glover, Kaitlin Horsley, Natalie Kipe, Josh Lefurge-McLeod, Jessica Maki, Dumisa Moyo, Michael Piper, Isaiah Robinson, Haley Roe, Riley Shull, Lucy Southwell, Ben Strawn, and Abby Thomasson.
