County School Secondary Education Director Steve Holmes Also To Be Called As Witness At Ooltewah High Rape Hearing

  • Tuesday, January 26, 2016

Steve Holmes, secondary education director for the Hamilton County Schools, also will be getting a subpoena to testify at the Feb. 15 Ooltewah High School rape preliminary hearing.

It was announced Monday that District Attorney Neal Pinkston was sending subpoenas to County School Supt. Rick Smith, Assistant Supt. Lee McDade and Ooltewah High Principal Jim Jarvis to testify at the preliminary hearing.

The four county school officials are set to be called as witnesses at the hearing in Juvenile Court before Judge Rob Philyaw.

The top county school officials have given out little information on their roles in handling the aftermath of attacks by three Ooltewah High basketball players on four young players at Gatlinburg just before Christmas.

The three players are charged with aggravated rape and assault.

A 15-year-old freshman suffered serious injuries when a pool cue was inserted into his rectum and the tip broke off.

DA Pinkston earlier brought charges of failing to report child abuse against Ooltewah High Athletic Director Jesse Nayadley and coaches Andre Montgomery and Karl Williams.

Judge Philyaw earlier denied motions to dismiss the charges and set the Feb. 15 preliminary hearing.

The team continued to play games at the Smoky Mountain Tournament after the Dec. 22 incident.
