Smith, Martin Close In Fundraising For District 3 County Commission Seat

Independent Joe Smith and Republican nominee Greg Martin were close in funds collected for the District 3 County Commission race.

Mr. Smith, longtime YMCA Y-CAP leader, came up with $10,480 and reported spending $5,218.

Dr. Martin, a county school board member, had $9,401 to go with $3,140 on hand from a prior campaign. He spent $10,316.

Dr. Martin got $750 from Marty Haynes, who held the seat until he was elected assessor of property in August.

He also received $1,000 from Rep. Gerald McCormick and $500 each from Greg Vital, Jay Jolley, Jay Simpson, Sue Mikel and Frank Steil. He received $250 from Geoff Holden, Robin Smith, Scott Bennett, Doug Martin, Drew Hausler and Kathy Greenholtz. He was given $200 by Buddy Templeton, Becky English and Jim Sattler.

Mr. Smith had $1,500 each from William Conroy Jr. and Pat Conroy. He got $1,000 from former Congressman Zach Wamp as well as Michael Blackburn of Maryville, Tn.

Other Smith gifts included $500 from Ray Marler, Marcia Biggs, Fred Decosimo and Bill Pollock, $400 from William Wilder Jr., $350 from Lewis Card Jr., $300 from John Brown of Shawnee, Kan., and $250 from Larry Rooks, Pat Neuhoff, Becky Browder, Bill Wilder and City Councilman Chris Anderson.
