Tennessee American Water, Bledsoe County and the Cities of Dunlap and Dayton have partnered to provide water for the Luminary community where the private wells have gone dry due to the ongoing drought.
Tennessee American Water was able to mobilize a water buffalo from its sister company Kentucky American Water. The water buffalo is a portable tank that can hold 1000 gallons. The City of Dunlap filled the initial tank of water which was then delivered to the residents. The City of Dayton will provide the subsequent water on an ongoing basis.
“While most of us have been lucky to be minimally impacted by the drought, some communities have been greatly affected,” said Tennessee American Water Director of Operations Kevin Kruchinski. “We are happy to help a neighboring community during their time of need to make sure they have water for their homes.”
“This is an example of how Tennesseans come together to help each other out in times of need,” said Dunlap Mayor Dwain Land. “Dunlap has a good supply of water and was the first step in getting water to the Luminary residents this past weekend.”
“I want to express my appreciation to Tennessee American Water, and the Cities of Dunlap and Dayton for going above and beyond to help the citizens in the Luminary community during this unprecedented time of drought,” said Bledsoe County Mayor Gregg Ridley. “We came up with a creative solution to make sure that folks get the water for their homes.”
Dayton Mayor Gary Louallen said Dayton is happy to be a partner in this project. “We have plenty of water, and we will make sure the water buffalo is filled up as long as our neighbors need help.”
