District Attorney General Neal Pinkston Determines Fatal Shooting Of Anthony Edmonds In June Was Justified

  • Tuesday, November 29, 2016

District Attorney General Neal Pinkston determined that the June 30, fatal shooting of Anthony Edmonds by Charles Russell at a convenience store in the 4000 block of Ringgold Road was justified.

His letter to East Ridge Police Chief J.R. Reed said, "I have reviewed the case file of the June 30 2016 wherein citizen, Charles Russell, shot and killed Anthony Edmonds. Edmonds had just performed a strong armed robbery with a butcher knife on a convenience store right before the shooting occurred.

"Under the facts and applicable Tennessee law, I conclude that the shooting is justified and that no charges should be filed against Mr.
Russell. Please contact me with any questions you may have."
