Nolan Davis Helms, Jr., died at his home in Signal Mountain on December 4, 2016. 

He was born July 29, 1949, in Atlanta, to Nolan Davis Helms, Sr., and Catherine Cobb Helms.

Davis graduated from the McCallie School in 1967, where he was on the cross country and track teams, Captain of Company C, and a member of FCA and TEPS.  In 1971 he received a business degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.

He was vice president of Hartford Carpets in Chattanooga, the general manager of Modern Carpets in Poteau, Ok., and was an insurance broker.  He was a member of the Mountain City Club and the Signal Mountain Lions Club.  He enjoyed tennis, scuba diving, and riding motorcycles.

Davis was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a deacon.

Davis is survived by his wife, Mary McCoy Helms; his son, Nolan Davis Helms, III (Catherine); his son, Douglas Carden Helms (Shelley); and his stepdaughter, Elizabeth Ladner Denson (Noah). He is also survived by three brothers, Don (Sandye) of Chattanooga, Rob (Marilyn) of Raleigh, NC, and Guy (Kathy) of Worland, WY.  He leaves behind five grandchildren: Duncan, Sydney, and Ellie Helms; and Everett and Natalie Denson.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, with Reverend Brian Cosby officiating.  Visitation will follow at the North Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Key Life Ministries, Wayside Presbyterian Church, or a charity of your choice.
