Vandiver Charged In Shooting At Homeless Camp Near Brainerd Walmart

Police have charged 65-year-old Paul Vandiver with shooting another man at a homeless camp near the Brainerd Walmart on Monday.

 

At approximately 6 p.m., Vandiver, who has a long history of arrests, was located and arrested. 


He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

During an argument in the homeless camp area near the 400 block of Greenview Way Drive, Daniel Mooney, 31, suffered a single gunshot wound.

The Chattanooga Police Violent Crimes Bureau quickly identified the suspect and warrants were obtained for his arrest. 

The shooting happened on Saturday shortly after 7 p.m.

Police located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Witnesses told police the victim emerged from the woods at 400 block of Greenway View Drive claiming to have been shot. 

He was transported to a local hospital by Hamilton County EMS for non-life threatening wounds.
