House On Nautical Way Has $60,000 In Fire Damage

  • Friday, May 6, 2016

A 20-year-old man was home alone when fire broke out in a Chattanooga home on Friday afternoon. He made it out safely, but the house suffered about $60,000 in damages.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm just after 4 p.m. and responded to 7735 Nautical Way with four fire companies.

The Incident Commander on the scene said the firefighters made a quick, interior attack and got the fire under control in just over 10 minutes.
No injuries were reported.

The resident said that at the time of the incident he had removed clothes from his dryer and went to another part of the home.  Upon his return a short time later he noticed smoke coming from the room he previously was in. Once he re-entered the area he was met with heavy smoke and flames.  After several attempts to extinguish the fire, he then exited the residence and had neighbors to dial 911.  Chattanooga Fire Investigator on the scene said the cause of the fire appears to be accidental, but it is still under investigation.

Volunteers with American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the victims. Chattanooga police and Hamilton County EMS also provided assistance on the scene.
