Woman, 20, Shot And Killed At A Residence On Cambridge Drive; Had Just Returned From National Guard Duty

A 20-year-old woman was shot and killed at a residence on Cambridge Drive early Tuesday morning.

The victim was identified as Ashley McKenzie.

Police said she had just returned from an overseas deployment in the National Guard. She was in the Guard for about two years.

The Chattanooga Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the Ridgewood Acres subdivision.

Police located Ms. McKenzie suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head.

Hamilton County EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. 

Investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department's Violent Crimes Bureau and the Crime Scene Unit were on the scene investigating.
