Gray Ange, who has been at Silverdale Baptist Academy since for one year, is branching out.

Tim Couch, Silverdale’s athletic director, announced Monday that Ange has been selected as the Seahawks’ new baseball coach.

Ange succeeds Jonathan Adcock as the Seahawks baseball coach. Adcock, who resigned in July, remains at the school and teaches math.

Ange has served as the football team’s defensive coordinator since 2015 and also has coached the middle school baseball team.

Ange also held coaching positions at Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce, Fla., LaFayette (Ga.) High School and Ooltewah Middle School.

“I’m really excited about the new job,” said Ange, 35, who was named coach late Friday. “Silverdale is a great school with great kids.”

Ange, who played baseball and football at Chocowinity High School in Washington, N.C., will retain his role as football defensive coordinator and that has afforded him the opportunity to know most of the baseball players.

“At a small school like Silverdale, most of the kids play most sports and I’ve gotten to know a lot of the baseball players that way,” Ange said. “We’ll be very athletic. They’ve had success in the past and I’m not coming in to change a lot of things. Jonathan has done a great job with the baseball program and I want to build on their success.

“As for football, I’ve enjoyed coaching with (head coach) Al Rogers and I’m going to stay with the football team.”

At Fort Pierce, Ange was the school’s varsity pitching coach and also handled pitching and hitting roles from 2012-14. The team won district titles each year and lost in the region finals to state runner-up Bishop Verot in 2013 and 2014.

Ange coached at LaFayette from 2008-11 and at Ooltewah Middle in 2015.

He played baseball at Chocowinity High School in Washington, N.C., from 1996-99 and was an all-state selection in his junior and senior years. Ange then in 2000-01 went to Pitt Community College in Greenville, N.C., and was a starting pitcher for the NJCAA Region X champions and Eastern Region runner-up.

From 2001-03 Ange played at Lee University in Cleveland as a starting and relieving pitcher. Lee won the TranSouth Region tournament in 2003. Ange was a TranSouth Conference scholar athlete in 2002 and 2003.

In his senior year, Ange helped the flames come within one game of reaching the College World Series.
