Municipal Candidates Set For Nov. 8 Election

  • Monday, August 22, 2016

Five candidates will be seeking three Soddy Daisy Commission seats in the upcoming election. Incumbents Jim Adams, Gene Shipley and Vice Mayor Patti Skates will be on the ballot along with Bill Layne and Max Lowe.

Thursday was the qualifying deadline.

In East Ridge, former Vice Mayor Jim Bethune is trying to get back on the council. There will be two seats filled.

Also running are Matthew DeGlopper, Esther Helton, Doris Rogers, Gregg Shipley, Robert Stahl and Brian Williams.

Vice Mayor Marc Gravitt and Councilman Denny Manning did not seek new terms. Mr. Gravitt has been serving both in the Legislature and on the council.

Three seats are open in Collegedale and incumbents Debbie Baker, Tim Johnson and Katie Lamb are running. Alexander Brown will also view for a seat.

In Red Bank, Bill Cannon, Mike Congdon, Carol S. Rose and Paul Thompson are seeking the District 2 post. Incumbent Eddie Pierce is unopposed for the at-large seat.

Four candidates wound up running for three seats on the Signal Mountain Commission, including Robert Spalding, who was the low vote-getting winner in the last election.

First-time candidates are Amy Acocelli-Speek, Eugenia Allderdice and Dan Landrum, who got in just prior to the deadline.

Bill Trohanis will again be the Walden mayor. Aldermen will be Lee Davis and Thom Peterson.

David Howell, Curtis Jones, John McPherson and Bill Neighbors are running for three Lakesite Commission seats.
