During the summer, several Cleveland Middle School students continued to work on their technology and leadership skills as they competed in the Technology Student Association’s state conference in Chattanooga and the national conference in Nashville.
Under the leadership of Franklin Odom and Cody Raper, 17 students were able to compete in the state and/or national TSA competition. They included Sarah Able, Michael Adriaanse, Jonah Black, Amberlynn Campbell, Gavin Davis, Briza Dedicatoria, Ethan Gallaher, Brenden Gates, Toby Ginn, Nathan Moss, Riya Patel, Alisha Saeed, Jannat Saeed, Rishi Soni, Victoria Thomas, Emilie Thompson, and Justin Thompson.
While at the state competition, Cleveland Middle teams won first place in both the Catapult Design and Website Design. Sarah Able won two first place awards, one in Career Preparation and the other in Promotional Marketing. In the Microcontroller Design competition, Cleveland came in second; while in the Leadership Challenge, the Cleveland team placed third. Gavin Davis was the second place individual in CAD Foundations and Riya Patel was the third place individual in that competition.
At the TSA national conference in Nashville, over 7,000 middle school and high school students and advisors from the United States, Germany, and Hungary competed in a variety of technology and leadership events. In the middle school division, Cleveland Middle placed fifth in Catapult Design, ninth in Video Game Design, and 11th place in Website Design. Sarah Able placed 11th in Promotional Marketing.
