Covenant women's cross country student-athlete Lilly Smith has been named the USA South Runner of the Week, announced the league on Monday afternoon.

The honor is the first in Smith's career and she becomes the first Covenant student-athlete to earn a conference weekly honor this season.

The sophomore from Weaverville, N.C., set a personal best in the two-mile with a time of 13:33.52 at the Mountaintop Invitational on Friday.
Smith's time put her in second place overall in the event and led Covenant to a second place team finish.

Smith's time also bested her previous top college time in the two-mile event by over one minute and 45 seconds.
